Seeking Lighting Designer – 3-4 days weekly

Leni Schwendinger Light Projects, Ltd., in New York City, a multidisciplinary, award-winning firm specializing in architectural lighting projects, environmental sculpture and lighting installations, seeks an energetic and enthusiastic lighting designer. Designer must have 2-4 years experience, excellent communication skills and be proactive and detail-oriented in order to join our creative team. We are a casual but intense studio with a highly motivated and dynamic staff. Qualified applicants should have a full range of experience in lighting design and specification, and project management from design concept to construction. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and photometric modeling software required; computer system knowledge and leadership skills a plus. Internship Opportunities

Because of the interdisciplinary nature of our studio, we accept interns from disciplines including Theatre Design, Visual Arts (including Film and Sculpture), Urban Design, and Architecture / Design. Light Projects’ goal is to humanize cities and spaces through lighting, and we invite young artists and designers to join us.

Our internship program is over ten years old! In the past interns have:

Gained a greater understanding of the technology behind lighting, through the creation and continued maintenance of a lighting catalog library and through the handling of fixture samples;
Heightened their knowledge of architectural design phases through involvement in submission packets for a number of varied projects;
Augmented their hands-on experience by participating in the design and rigging of fashion show lighting;
Collaborated with the Light Projects design staff through the creation of models, sketches, and renderings of upcoming projects.

For the Spring 2004 semester our projects will include, among others:

  • Interior and exterior architectural lighting treatments for large sites in the New York City area.
  • Several national public projects with sculptural and light components.
  • An International Public Art Project using solar energy.

Light Projects internships can be for credit and are non-paid positions.

Interns should be experienced using the following software: Adobe Acrobat (full version), Thumbs Plus , Microsoft Word and Excel, Illustrator, Photoshop, AutoCAD
